The Undeserved Rescue Mission

"Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father." — Galatians 1:4 (KJV)
Rescuing hand

Why Did Jesus Defy Logic?

Sometimes we wonder—why would anyone would defy Logic and reasoning, and give up everything for people who don’t even deserve it? Why would Jesus, knowing the pain and suffering at stake, willingly lay down His life? The answer lies in something greater than human logic: divine love!

The apostle Paul opens his letter to the Galatians by emphasizing the core of the gospel: Jesus Christ gave Himself for our sins. This verse carries immense theological weight, revealing three crucial aspects of Christ’s redemptive work:

1. A Voluntary Sacrifice

Jesus was not coerced into this act of love. He gave Himself—an intentional, willing offering. Unlike the Old Testament sacrifices where animals were taken and slain, Jesus chose to lay down His life (John 10:18). His motivation? Pure, unconditional love (Romans 5:8).

2. The Purpose: Deliverance from Evil

The phrase “that he might deliver us from this present evil world” suggests a rescue mission. The Greek word for deliver (ἐξαιρέω, exaireó) means to pluck out, snatch away, or rescue. This world, under the dominion of sin and Satan (2 Corinthians 4:4), enslaves humanity in corruption and rebellion against God. Christ’s atonement not only cleanses our past but also grants us the power to live free from the influence of this fallen system.

3. The Divine Will

The ultimate reason behind Jesus’ sacrifice is found in the phrase “according to the will of God and our Father.” The cross was not a tragic accident—it was the predetermined plan of the Father (Acts 2:23). God, in His sovereign love, designed salvation through Jesus to restore what sin destroyed.

How Did Jesus Accomplish This?

The execution of this rescue mission took place on Calvary. Jesus accomplished this deliverance by:

Becoming the Substitute – He took upon Himself the penalty of sin (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Defeating Death and Sin – Through His resurrection, He triumphed over the power of darkness (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).

Providing a New Way of Life – Through faith in Him, believers are no longer slaves to the world’s corruption but are transformed (Romans 12:2).

The Result and Benefit for Humanity

For those who accept Christ’s sacrifice, the result is freedom—freedom from sin, condemnation, and the dominion of this evil world. This freedom is not just about escaping judgment but embracing a new identity as sons and daughters of God (John 1:12). The benefits include:

  • Eternal Life (John 3:16)

  • Peace with God (Romans 5:1)

  • Victory over sin (Romans 6:14)

  • Hope and transformation (2Corinthians 5:17)

The Consequences of Ignoring This Truth

Ignoring or rejecting Christ’s sacrifice has eternal consequences. Those who remain in sin without embracing Christ’s deliverance are subject to:

Bondage to this evil world – Trapped in its deception and ultimately consumed by its destruction (1 John 2:17).

Eternal Separation from God – Hell is not just a place of torment, but the complete absence of God’s presence (2Thessalonians 1:9).

A Life Without Purpose – Apart from Christ, life lacks eternal meaning, and worldly pursuits will eventually prove empty (Ecclesiastes 1:2).

Will You Embrace the Rescue?

The reality of Christ’s sacrifice demands a response. If He willingly gave Himself to rescue you, will you accept His salvation? Will you choose freedom over bondage, light over darkness, and eternal life over destruction?

Jesus has done His part—now it’s your turn. Don’t remain in the grip and control of this present evil world when Christ has already made a way out. Don't let his selfless, divine love and rescue mission be in vain. Time is of the essence. Let this word of Jesus give you comfort,

Luke 18:29-30: And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting."
